Today, in the hall of the National Theater in Niš, a formal session of the Assembly of the City of Niš was held on the occasion of January 11, the day of the liberation of Niš from the Turks. At the session, the most prestigious recognition of the City, “11th January” Awards were presented, and one of this year’s winners is the collective of the National Theater in Niš.

During the 135 years of the National Theater in Niš, plays have premiered more than fifteen hundred times.

In the last four years alone, the Niš National Theater had 30 premieres, performed 301 reruns in front of 61,092 spectators. It visited 36 festivals in the country and abroad and hosted 75 performances from the country and the region. Of that, in the last year, it had 8 premieres, played 65 reruns in front of 21,432 spectators. It successfully visited 12 festivals in the country and abroad and hosted 10 performances from the country and the region.

The National Theater in Niš continuously contributes to the spread of culture, the promotion of theater art and the affirmation of the City of Niš and the State of Serbia by regularly participating in theater festivals in the country and abroad.

With its existence and many years of work, it left an indelible mark and put the city of Niš on the cultural map of Serbia, the Balkans and Europe.

All the successes would not have been possible without the constellation of actors, directors, playwrights, scenographers, costume designers, prominent theater creators of the Serbian and Yugoslav scene, as well as all the previous collectives, who contributed to the continuous development and successful existence of the National Theater in Niš with their work, but also without the audience. which has faithfully been with us all these years.
