The Niš National Theater is presenting the fifth Festival of Drama and Theater of the Balkan Cultural Space of ​​a competitive character, called “Theatre at the Crossroads”. The festival will take place in Niš from September 2 to 8, 2024.

 

The festival selector Spasoje Ž. Milovanović, MA, chose six plays from Serbia and neighboring countries for the main, competitive part of the festival:

 

Dominik Smole ANTIGONE, directed by Luka Marcen, Slovenian National Theater Nova Gorica, Slovenia (September 2);

 

Branislav Nušić MISTER DOLLAR, directed by Miloš Lolić, National Theater in Belgrade, Serbia (September 3);

 

THE POETESS, written and directed by Vida Ognjenović Serbian National Theater and CI New Fortress Theater, Serbia (September 4);

 

Eduardo de Filippo SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY, directed by Paolo Magelli, City Satirical Theater Kerempuh, Croatia (September 5);

 

Eugene Ionesco, THE BALD SOPRANO, directed by Jagoš Marković, Center for Culture Tivat, Montenegro (September 6);

 

Michel Houellebecq, THE ELEMENTARY PARTICLES, directed by Kris Sharkov, National Theater “Ivan Vazov”, Bulgaria (September 7);

 

At the closing of the Festival on September 8, the audience will have the opportunity to watch the performance written by Borisav Stanković, KOŠTANA, directed by Jana Maričić, National Theater in Niš, Serbia, which will be performed in honor of the awardees.

 

In addition to the six competing shows and the performance in honor of the awardees, a rich accompanying program will take place, starting on Tuesday, September 3, at 12:00 noon at the New City Hotel with a forum on the topic Theatrical models of the Balkan cultural space.

 

On the same day at 6:00 PM on the Small Stage of the National Theater in Niš, the audience will have the opportunity to watch the duo drama MEMORIES OF SARAH BERNHARDT by John Murrell. The adaptation and direction is signed by Staša Koprivica, and the show stars Tanja Bošković and Dejan Djonović. It is a co-production of Herceg Novi Theater and Herceg Fest from Montenegro.

 

The audience will have the opportunity to see this show again the very next day, September 4 at 8:30 PM at the Niš Puppet Theater.

On Thursday, September 5, at 6:00 PM, in the upper foyer of the National Theater of Niš, the author’s evening of Radoman Kanjevac will be held, entitled “Poetry at the Crossroads”, where this poet will speak his new and unpublished poems and promote his new book Sinful thoughts in holy places.

 

On Friday, September 6, at 6:00 PM, on the Small Stage of the National Theater of Niš, the audience will be able to watch the performance BOXES by a production company from Istanbul, Turkey. The author of the play is Burju Gorek, and the direction is signed by Balim Kar and Semih Degirmenci. This performance will also be performed on Saturday, September 7, at 8:30 PM in the Niš Puppet Theater.

 

Every evening from September 3 to 7, after the end of all performances, a critics round table wil take place in the upper foyer of the National Theater in Niš.

 

The price for a set of tickets for the main program of the festival Theatre at the Crossroads (7 performances) is 4900 dinars, while individual tickets for each performance of the main program are 1200 dinars for the ground floor and 1000 dinars for the balcony. The sale of individual tickets for the main program of the festival starts on August 22.

 

A single ticket for the show Memories of Sarah Bernhardt (September 3 and 4) is 1,000 dinars, and for the show Boxes (September 6 and 7) 700 dinars.

 

Tickets can be purchased at the box office of the National Theater in Niš on weekdays from 10:00 AM. to 8:00 PM.
