ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT

Michał Walczak

One of the most prominent and widely performed Polish playwrights of his generation. He was born in 1979. He graduated in Theatre Studies and subsequently studied Directing at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw. During his first year of directing studies, he published his first play, Games in the Sand, with which he won the “We at the Threshold of the New Century” competition.

From then on, he became one of the most acclaimed young Polish playwrights. His plays have been included in the most important anthologies of contemporary Polish drama, translated into numerous languages, and performed around the world. He has directed many of his own plays, but never his most frequently performed work, Games in the Sand.
