Limunacija is not Sremac’s story about a teacher who arrives in a remote village, full of ready-made phrases of European social democracy and slogans of our nineteenth-century agitation and demagoguery, but rather Kovačević’s bleak portrayal of our customs and ways that have persisted to this day.
As trust in institutions continues to decline, new popular tribunes aim to turn the people’s wishes into executive power. They are there to “make someone’s day,” as the compelling protagonist of the film Dirty Harry put it.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT AND DIRECTOR
NEBOJŠA BRADIĆ
He graduated in Theatre and Radio Directing from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. From 1981 to 1996, he worked as a director, Artistic Director, and Managing Director of Kruševac Theatre. In the 1996/97 season, he was Managing Director of Atelje 212, and from 1997 to 1999, Managing Director of the National Theatre in Belgrade. From December 2000, he served as Managing and Artistic Director of the Belgrade Drama Theatre. In 2008, he was appointed Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia. He is currently Editor of the Cultural and Artistic Programme at Radio Television Serbia.
He has directed more than 90 productions in Serbian, Bosnian, Slovenian, Croatian, and Greek theatres, with a particular affinity for adaptations of contemporary national literature. He has also directed operas, musicals, and ballets. He is the founder of the Belgrade Dance Festival, the author of numerous essays on theatre, and a Professor of Acting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade.
He has received the most important national theatre awards. At the “Joakim Vujić” Serbian Theatre Encounters, he has won nine awards for Best Direction. He is a recipient of Sterija Awards for contemporary stage adaptation, dramatization, and direction, as well as awards for direction and dramatization at theatre festivals in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Brčko, Zenica, Doboj), the Best Direction Award at Joakim InterFest, and at the International Festival of Classics in Vršac. In Moscow, he received the “Golden Knight” Award for directing the production The Golden Fleece by Borislav Pekić, and in Istanbul, he received an award for the dramatization of Death and the Dervish by Meša Selimović.
DUŠAN KOVAČEVIĆ
Serbian academician, playwright, screenwriter, and director. He graduated in Dramaturgy from the Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television in Belgrade.
He worked as a dramaturg at Television Belgrade until 1978. From 1986 to 1988, he taught at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. Since 1998, he has been the Director of Zvezdara Theatre in Belgrade. He was elected a Corresponding Member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) in 2000 and a Full Member in 2009. In 2005, he was appointed Ambassador of Serbia and Montenegro to Portugal.
He is the author of 21 plays and 15 film and television screenplays. He has directed theatre productions and films, and his plays have been performed in more than 150 theatres around the world. As a playwright, he is often compared to Branislav Nušić.

He has received all the most important national awards in the fields of theatre and film, the Palme d’Or for Best Screenplay (Underground, Cannes Film Festival, 1995), Best Screenplay Awards at the Montreal World Film Festival (Balkan Spy, 1984; The Professional, 2003), the October Award of the City of Belgrade, several lifetime achievement awards, as well as the Ivo Andrić Award for his overall contribution to Serbian literature (2017).
MARINA VUKASOVIĆ MEDENICA
Costume designer. She graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade in 1984 and earned a Master of Arts degree in Costume Design in 2001. She has worked as a costume designer in theatre, film, television, and advertising productions, as well as in teaching and research in the field of costume history and the culture of dress in the Balkans. She has held four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Serbia and abroad.
She has designed costumes for fifteen feature films and collaborated with prominent Serbian directors on drama productions and operas. She has received several annual awards from ULUPUDS, as well as costume design awards at film and theatre festivals in Serbia and abroad. She is a member of ULUPUDS with the status of Distinguished Artist, a recipient of the Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Crystal Prism, the highest honor awarded by the Academy of Film Arts and Sciences.
VERA OBRADOVIĆ
She is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pristina (temporarily based in Kosovska Mitrovica). She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade, earned her master’s degree at the University of Arts in Belgrade, and received her PhD from the University of Novi Sad. She teaches Stage Movement and Choreodrama.
She was a soloist with the Belgrade Contemporary Ballet ensemble, led by Smiljana Mandukić. She further developed her choreographic and pedagogical expertise at the Faculty of Physical Education in Novi Sad, Department of Modern-Jazz Dance, in the class of Professor Ljiljana Mišić.
She has received numerous awards for choreography. At Serbia’s leading theatres, she has worked on stage movement, direction, and choreography for numerous productions, and she is also the author of several choreodramas. She participates in national and international professional and academic conferences, publishes papers in scholarly journals in Serbia and abroad, and is the author of the book Choreodrama in Serbia in the 20th and 21st Centuries: A Gender Perspective. She is also engaged in theatre and ballet criticism. She is a member of the Association of Ballet Artists of Serbia.
ZORAN ERIĆ
He graduated and earned his master’s degree in composition at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, and continued his studies in Salzburg and Stockholm. His works have been performed throughout Europe, as well as in the United States, China, and Australia, by renowned Serbian and international ensembles, including Guildhall Strings, St. George Strings, Kreisler London Strings, 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker, Detroit Chamber Orchestra, Kremlin String Orchestra, Camerata Serbica, Banatul Philharmonia, Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, and Irish Chamber Orchestra.
He has collaborated with numerous distinguished conductors and soloists, including Kenneth Jean, James Judd, Ksenija Janković, Lidija Pilipenko, David Takeno, Bernard Lansky, So-Ock Kim, Malachy Robinson, Jon Bogdanescu, Marija Spengler, Aleksandar Madžar, Arisa Fujita, and Emmanuel Pahud.
A special place in his oeuvre is occupied by music for theatre and film. He has collaborated with many of the most prominent Serbian theatre and film artists. He has received numerous awards, including the October Award of the City of Belgrade, the YUSTAT Grand Prix for theatre music, two Golden Mimosas for film music, two Sterija Awards for theatre music, the Grand Gold Medal of the University of Arts in Belgrade, and four Mokranjac Awards, the highest distinction in the field of musical composition in Serbia.
He is a Full Professor at the Department of Composition of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. He has conducted international masterclasses and seminars at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and Iressia in Athens. He served as Head of the Department of Composition at the Faculty of Music from 2007 to 2015, and as Rector of the University of Arts in Belgrade from 2015 to 2018.
