Spring of 337 AD. The aging Emperor Constantine spends the final days of his life in Nicomedia, where he is visited by a mysterious messenger who hands him a scroll bearing an unusual symbol—two interlocking rings with wings. The sign awakens memories of his encounter with his friend Demetrius in Thessalonica more than three decades earlier, and becomes the catalyst for a confession about the life journey that led him from a legionary centurion to ruler of the Roman Empire.

Through a series of memories, Constantine recalls his Christian mother, his ambitious military commander father, his escape from Galerius’s court, his campaign against Rome, great battles, visions, victories, and personal trials. Before the mysterious young man, he reflects on his life, speaking of wars, sins, suffering, and the moment when he embraced Christianity as his spiritual path.
