Call for Submissions for participation at the festival “Theatre at the Crossroads”
Dear friends,
Due to the specific circumstances caused by the pandemic and all occurring measures in the entire region, the National Theater in Nis was unfortunately not able to host the international festival “Theatre at the Crossroads” in 2020.
At this moment, the Nis Theater is starting with organizational preparations and selection process for the next two festivals and is making efforts to hold them, despite the difficult conditions under which all theaters operate at this time.
The postponed, second festival in a row, will be held from September 6 to 13, 2021, and at the same time preparations and selection process are underway for the third festival, which will be held in its regular term, in March 2022.
“Theatre at the Crossroads” is looking for performances by professional theaters that create and operate within the common Balkan cultural space and is of a competitive nature. It includes the following countries: Slovenia, Croatia, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Serbia.
The National Theater in Nis is making a Call for Submissions for participation at the festival “Theatre at the Crossroads”:
– II Festival, September 06 – 13, 2021
Conditions: Performances of small theatrical forms which had their premiere between September 1, 2019 and May 1, 2021 have the right to apply.
The deadline for submitting the application is June 1, 2021, and the selection results will be known by June 15, 2021.
– III Festival, March 11 – 17, 2022
– Conditions: Performances (no restrictions) which had their premiere between Apri1 1, 2019 and December 1, 2021 have the right to apply.
The deadline for submitting the application is December 1, 2021.
The co-selectors of the festival are prof. Vlatko Ilic, PhD, and the director and general manager of the National Theater in Nis Spasoje Z. Milovanovic, MA theatrologist.
The program council consists of prominent theater creators from Serbia and the region:
Dusko Ljustina, PhD, Cultural Manager (Zagreb, Croatia); Vasilka Bumbarova, theatrologist (Sofia, Bulgaria); Dejan Lilic, drama champion (Skopje, Northern Macedonia); Milos Latinovic, playwright and writer (Belgrade, Serbia); Miroslav Radonjic, PhD, theatrologist (Novi Sad, Serbia); in accordance with the festival rules and regulations, the Mayor of Nis Dragana Sotirovski, tourism expert, and the general manager of the National Theater in Nis, Spasoje Z. Milovanovic, MA theatrologist.
The Festival Jury awards prizes for the best show, direction, four acting awards, for costume design and scenography, for original stage music, for stage movement, as well as a special award of the Festival. In addition to these, the round table of critics prize and the jury of journalists prize are awarded.
“Theatre at the Crossroads” aims at affirming similarities and differences of the cultural identity of countries and peoples sharing the same space, strengthening international cultural exchange, promoting theatre art of Balkan cultural space, as well as exchanging ideas and theatre practices.
Applications must include: application form, video of the show, short description of the play, information about the author of the play, information about the director, excerpts from the reviews, poster, program and photos.
