On Tuesday, January 21 starting at 8 pm, the show “Uncle Vanya”, written by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, directed by Andrej Nosov, will be performed at the National Theater in Nis. The play was co-produced by Heartefact Fund and the Steria National Theatre from Vrsac, and in a new and interesting way it deals with the issues of laziness and conformism, as the main obstacles to any change.
In this regard, the authors team worked on updating the text, placing Chekhov’s heroes on the scene with all their details, layering, problems, and sometimes unexplained mood swings.
This contemporary reading of Uncle Vanya outlines Chekhov’s atmosphere of heat and fervor – a perfectly good excuse for not acting. The visit of the owner of the estate, Serebryakov, causes laziness – everyone ceases to do the usual jobs to please him, and the presence of his wife, Yelena Andreevnaa, and her desire for change, make them to question s and remind themselves of the missed chances of a better, more fulfilling life.
