SELECTOR OF THE FESTIVAL             

Prof. Vlatko Ilic, PhD

 

Vlatko Ilić was born in 1981 in Belgrade. From 1999 till 2001 he attended Lester B. Pearson UWC College of the Pacific in Victoria, Canada, as a recipient of CIDA scholarship – Canadian International Development Agency. Graduated in theatre and radio directing from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, being awarded The Student of the Year title, in 2006. Defended his doctoral dissertation Strategies for the Survival of Live Performance in the Era of New Media: New Theory of Theater/Theory of New Theater in Serbia at the University of Arts in Belgrade in Decembar 2010, and receives a Doctor of Philosophy title in the field of theory of art and media.

 

Ilić is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, and a Head of the Theory and History Department. Author of two professional monographies: Contemporary Theatre: Aesthetic Experience and Transgressive Practices (Sterijino pozorje, Novi Sad, 2018), and An Introduction to New Theory of Theatre (Nolit / Altera, Belgrade, 2011), and became one of the co-authors of New Critical Theory: Philosophy of Entertainment with Divna Vuksanović and Dragan Ćalović (Aesthetic Society of Serbia, Belgrade, 2021). One of the the co-editors of numerous thematic publications whereof one stands out: Theatre Within the Context…and not just Theatre (with Irena Ristić, Hop.La!/Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Belgrade, 2016). From 2012 till 2014 the coordinator of the research project The Theory of Performative Acts: from Dramatic Theatre to Social Changes, at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. Guest lecturer at the Faculty of Arts in Podgorica and a member of the managing board of the Aesthetic Society of Serbia.

 

In addition to scholar work, Vlatko Ilić is also active in the field of artistic production. He received a Special award for directing at the Sterijino Pozorje festival in 2007 for the play The Very End of the World by Jean-Luc Lagarce, produced by The Little Theater Duško Radović. He regularly cooperates with the drama program of Radio Belgrade (radio dramas: Pars Hostilis, M. Karaklajić; Five levels, five conversations between Svetolik Plesnik, MD and Marija Polek, MD, V. Klačar; Healing, D. Vuksanovic; A testament of this day, E. bond), while his other works include: The Soldier’s Tale, Stravinsky/Ramuz, Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, 2018; Anne Frank, based on The Diary of Anne Frank, National theater Sterija, Vršac, 2016; Marx in Soho by H. Zinn, Yugoslav Drama Theatre/Customs Stage/YDT, Belgrade, 2013; as well as the series of works created in co-operation with Vojislav Klačar: X Government Constitution of the Kingdom of Koreta by V. Klačar, Hebbel Theatre, Berlin, 2009; III University Foundation in the Kingdom of Koreta by V. Klačar, Geschwister-Scholl-Haus, Leipzig, 2008; Parliamentary History of Koreta by V. Klačar, Belef, 2007, etc.
